The WA Kids Cancer Centre provides a highly supportive environment for our researchers, empowering them to work towards our vision of defeating childhood cancer.
With the aim of maximising the time our team members have to focus on their vital research, we have established the Cancer Centre Support team.
The Support team ensures smooth daily operations of our large multidisciplinary team, ensures implementation of our strategy, and assists with securing ongoing funding for the Cancer Centre.
The team provides administrative support, financial management, onboarding and offboarding of team members, project management, assistance with promotion of our research, governance management, coordination of research collaborations, and assistance with driving funding opportunities, including grant applications and philanthropic opportunities. They work closely with our generous supporters to ensure their needs are met and their funds are managed in accordance with their wishes.
These tasks are undertaken in a coordinating role, with significant support from the Institute’s Professional Services teams including People and Culture, Finance, Facilities, Communications, Development, and Research Development.
Another focus of the team is on building internal relationships within the Centre and ensuring our students and early career researchers are engaged and supported. In the challenging sector of medical research, career development and mentoring are vital. A further core function is to work closely with our Community Reference Group, who all have personal experience being parents of children who have battled cancer. This key group informs our research, ensures it is directly relevant, and assists with our grant applications.
